2. The objective of the university-wide English courses is to enhance the proficiency of the English language, and the design of layered curricula is founded on differentiated instruction and assessment.

A. Module I: English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP). The level of the courses in this category corresponds to the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages (CEFR). The objective of the courses is to promote the student’s mastery of academic English and their general language abilities to express local culture.

B. Module II: English for Specific Academic Purposes (EASP). The level of the courses in this category corresponds to the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages (CEFR). The objective of the courses is to engage students in an academic discipline taught in English.

C. Module III: English for Specific Academic Purposes (EASP). The level of the courses in this category corresponds to the C1 or higher level of the Common European Framework of Reference of Languages (CEFR). The objective of the courses is to increase the student’s communicative skills in the cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural context, and to encourage their participation in society.

3. In response to the course review process prior to the actual offering of the course, the full-time faculty should submit a proposal to develop a new course that matches the module’s descriptions. The part-time faculty must collaborate with a full-time faculty member first to make a proposal. The syllabus of a new course is reviewed at the meeting of the Foreign Language Center (hereafter the Center), then by the Collegiate Curriculum Committee, and finally reviewed by the General Education Committee.

4. Any instructor who would like to offer a new course should complete the General Education New Course Proposal Form and present relevant materials for review before the deadlines, which are March 15 and October 15. The review process may require the instructor to attend necessary meetings to justify the proposal.

5. The offering of courses is subject to demand and under the arrangement of the Center. Should any disputes arise, they shall be referred to the Foreign Language Center Consultation Committee for adjudication. A written resolution will then be announced.

6. These regulations shall be approved by the General Meeting of Faculty Members before taking effect, and any amendments shall be approved by the Foreign Language Center Consultation Committee.
